Most guitar experts would agree, it's really, really, really hard to improve on the Les Paul Model. In over 50 years, the master's design is unbeatable. The carved mahogany body features a quilted maple top with a set, mahogany neck with Rosewood fingerboard and is voiced by a pair of high-output alnico classic humbuckers, and the Shadow NanoMag system. Add Gold Grover tuners, and the new Epiphone LockTone locking tune-o-matic bridge and Stop-bar tailpiece for even more sustain and unparalleled versatile tone.

It's half the weight of the real thing. Pickups sound like a PRS more than PAF. Not quite as lowdown and funky as the real thing. When you add the acoustic pickup, then it takes on that LP sound. If you like using a slide, the active pickup screams even at low volume. In fact if you like to use a slide or your fingers, you can't beat this thing. I did leave the battery in the active pickup on, and it went dead in a couple of days, my fault. Just remove the battery or shut the knob on the back off. This is a unique guitar that will take you places sonicly that you can't go with anything else. I use it with two cords and a high end 300 watt stereo tube amp and throw in some drive. All I can say is Wow. No, it is not a 40 year old LP, nothing sounds like that only the real thing. For a modern sound you can take to some real funky places, this guitar can't be beat. I recently purchased this little beauty, and I couldn't be happier. What awesome variations in tone I can get thanks to them adding in that Nanomag pickup by Shadow. It's a pretty versatile little pickup. I will say, I don't really care for the strings that came with it, but as it needs some adjusting, I'll just replace them out anyway. The action came set pretty high for my standards, and there is sometimes a "pop" sound with the stereo nanomag jack. I'm not too upset about it, as it's all covered under warranty and a new guitar needs adjusting out of the box anyway. Overall I'm extremely happy with this guitar. I also purchased the Schecter Damien Special in Crimson Red, when Amazon had it marked down to like $238 or something. I love to play it for metal, but this les paul can get some serious crunch too with the right amp setup and the nanomag gain cranked. It's lighter than a standard Les Paul as it's chambered, but the sustain is still pretty sick... This is the original ultra, i purchased one two Augusts ago with a little maintenance it has defeated many of my other pricey guitars.The sound is a bit murky like fellow Les Pauls before it, you can assume though a nice hard driven rock sound, and a cutting edge solo tone. The treble and rhythm feature such a strong contrast against each other. The rhythm sounds good enough to be used on clean channel unlike many other Les Pauls. The gold alnico humbuckers and tuning pegs really add to a nicer interpretation along with the stylized burst scattered body. The guitars strap peg may fall out entirely, easy to fix. With multiple sessions put down on this guitar i find no reason why not to buy it, it endures well and plays as well as it endures! I own eight guitars (some even being the elusive Stevie Ray Vaughan sig Fender, Zakk Wylde Gibson LP, Ibanez RG, Another Epi LP ect), and have played with many... Read more |
