UPDATED

[UPDATED AGAIN 3/14/10: Whoa! The price just went up a *lot* - a week ago, I bought this for quite a bit less; the guitar was not $1,499 when I purchased it...keep that in mind when considering this review]

Ok, I got a replacement and have given it a good workout. On that score, Amazon gets high marks. All I did was describe the issues with the first one I received and ask whether or not these were "blems". In less than 24 hours I had a reply in my inbox that didn't even bother with my questions - a new one was already on its way out, to be delivered the next day, and a return authorization provided for the first one, giving me 30 days to get it back. The only less-than-perfect bit is I have to front the cost of return shipping, but I can see their position on this. Once it's received and they see the problems, return shipping costs will be refunded. 5 stars to Amazon.

The new guitar also came new in an unopened factory box, and is a vast... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Did Gibson give up on quality control?, March 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I just received my reverse flying v and I am very disappointed. Some major cosmetic flaws that shouldn't have made it past any inspector. Several scuffs/scratches on the body. It was either painted poorly or mishandled during or after the painting process. Also the headstock has white paint over run onto the black face. the paint over run is very minor but I've seen guitars sold as seconds or blemished for far less. Gibson puts an MSRP of $3448 on these guitars then uses a quality control process that appears to be lesser than those used by manufacturers of guitars that sell at a tenth of the price. To me this is inexcusable. The inspection card that came with it shows what little care was given by the inspector. Instead of each inspection item being checked there is just one straight line used to check all the boxes. Amazon as usual is making the return process fairly painless. Although it seems so stupid to me that any item over $700 dollars is not eligible for UPS pick up or... Read more

As others have said, most people will either love or hate this guitar based on looks alone. However, the tone and playability should make fans out of everyone.

I purchased the ebony model. The package arrived at my home in a Gibson sealed factory box. Inside the box was a nice black Gibson USA case with white interior that goes quite well with the ebony version. Upon opening the case, the guitar inside was flawless. I will admit that it takes your eyes a minute to adjust to the look of the guitar, but don't dwell too much on that. Pick it up and start playing it, this is where this puppy really shines.

The setup was perfect out of the box. I only had to adjust the tuning. Due to angle of the body, it is a breeze to play sitting down and puts the neck in a more classical position. Playing with a strap, the guitar is perfectly balanced and the weight is ideal, not too heavy, not too light. I'm running mine thru a Marshall tube and it screams! I don't... Read more
