The potassium stearate version is no longer available as of this update. I have not used the veggie oil based version and this review in no way alludes to that version. That said, my experience has been that veggie oil based soaps are not quite as good in the best instances and can be downright dreck in other instances. And in any instance not as skin friendly as their superior stearate versions. Ymmv. This is an excellent soap for the money. No doubt the user that said it was hard to lather has either very hard water or is not proficient with lathering hard shaving soaps. And the dirty little secret about the wooden bowls amongst all the vendors is that they're nearly all proprietary sizes. This forces you to get their bowl with their soap so they can make an extra buck off of you. Some are interchangeable but not many. And... Remember that the quality wooden bowl can be refilled with shave just the lotion itself, so no need to keep buying the whole set. My original order was lost in shipping, at no fault to the vendor, they fulfilled my order very quickly and I had tracking notification that it was shipped from the vendor within a very short time of placing the order. Once the postal service had it, it went into the Bermuda Triangle. When I contacted the vendor, they replaced the order and sent it via UPS with a 20% discount code for my next purchase. As a result of how they handled the lost shipment, I would always use them again and recommend them to anyone else. The soap itself, really good lather. Has a sharp lavender scent when you smell it, which becomes more diffused when lathered up and pretty much fades when your done shaving. The Bowl is sturdy and looks good. Definitely worth a try if your into shaving the old fashioned way. |
