The Maple body with Solid Spruce top and Maple Set Neck help make every inch of this guitar a jazz masterpiece. The fingerboard is made from Resinator wood with Hagstrom Pearl Block Position Marks. Resinator wood is more stable than any standard wood product. It is the perfect fingerboard material in that it eliminates wolf tones or hot spots, and it has a smooth, articulate sound. The H-Expander Truss Rod provides tension at either end and running the entire length of the neck, and the rigid yet lightweight alloy truss rod allows for a very low action and thin neck, two factors that were instrumental in earning Hagstrom its reputation as the world’s fastest playing guitar. The HJ-800 has dual Hagstrom HJ50 pickups. Other features are: Hagstrom 18:1 die cast tuning keys, 24.75 inch scale length, an Ebony Jimmy bridge with Hagstrom Trapeze tail piece, a 3-way pickup toggle switch, and 2 x volume/ 2 x tone.

But when I retired about a year ago I decided to take up jazz guitar. But I didn't want to spend more than about a thousand dollars on a another guitar, mainly because I already have several top end axes. I checked out several jazz boxes in that price range at a local music store but didn't really like the way they sounded and played, and they seemed cheaply made to me. Mostly they had poor sound to my ear and were cumbersome to play. Then at a guitar show I got introduced to the Hagstrom HJ-800. It was love at first strum! The HJ-800 had such a natural feel and a sound that rivaled some of the best electric guitars I've heard. I ordered one from Musicians Friend online and have been thoroughly enjoying my excursion into jazz since it came. This guitar has great versatility in the types of music you can play with it too.
