Hagstrom HJ800 Electric Jazz Guitar (Natural Mahogany)

Product Description

The Hagstrom Select Series, Vintage Series, and UltraLux Series guitars recapture the original glorious Hagstrom style. They are built to the same stringent quality standards and feature Hagstrom's exclusive technologies including the legendary H-Expander Truss Rod while introducing a number of new technological advances such as the Resinator Fretboard in order to guarantee that these are the finest guitars on the market. The Hagstrom Vintage Series HJ-800 Jazz Guitar is still the benchmark of fine guitar craftsmanship. The Maple body with Solid Spruce top and Maple Set Neck help make every inch of this guitar a jazz masterpiece. The fingerboard is made from Resinator wood with Hagstrom Pearl Block Position Marks. Resinator wood is more stable than any standard wood product. It is the perfect fingerboard material in that it eliminates wolf tones or hot spots, and it has a smooth, articulate sound. The H-Expander Truss Rod provides tension at either end and running the entire length of the neck, and the rigid yet lightweight alloy truss rod allows for a very low action and thin neck, two factors that were instrumental in earning Hagstrom its reputation as the world’s fastest playing guitar. The HJ-800 has dual Hagstrom HJ50 pickups. Other features are: Hagstrom 18:1 die cast tuning keys, 24.75 inch scale length, an Ebony Jimmy bridge with Hagstrom Trapeze tail piece, a 3-way pickup toggle switch, and 2 x volume/ 2 x tone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Agreed: Best Kept Secret, July 16, 2011

Here's the deal: Through the years, I've owned probably a dozen Gibsons: 335's 135's. Lucille, Les Paul, etc. They all shared a common fault: out of the box, the Volume / Tone controls are garbage, as well as the associated caps. All of the Gibson Lover forums attest to this: "I got amazing better sound when I replaced all the tone controls, etc etc." The stock Gibson pickups are also merely okay, sending players in search of Seymour Duncan and other worthy replacements. After all, why not spend another $400 on your $3,000 guitar, right?

I fell into this, and spent big $ making my expensive Gibson guitars sound like they should. While pleased with the results, I always had to ask myself why. Why should a big $ guitar need such simple mods to bring out the best tone? And in spite of the 'improvements' - I always ate it on the resale value because it was not a Pure and Stock and Vintage Gibson Guitar. The worst of both worlds.

Flash forward to the Hagstrom,... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars The best kept secret, October 21, 2010

I was looking for an archtop for under $1000. I have played friends' Ibanez Artcores and they just feel & sound like student instruments. I was looking into Godins and then came across this instrument at an unbeatable price (lower than list, I think these are not selling well now). All I can say is, WOW! As soon as I opened the case I was impressed with the beauty and quality of the instrument. It feels and sounds fantastic. While I primarily use the neck pickup, the bridge adds a nice bright sound when you want it. I think a lot of people shy away from Hagstrom because they are now assembled in China, but the hardware on this guitar is solid. Not to mention the most comfortable neck I have played in a long time. I found a number of online videos and forums comparing this to Gibson 335's and panning the Hagstrom as second rate, honestly you expect it to sound better than a $3,000 instrument, that's insane. I have no idea why this instrument is not as popular as Epis and Artcores in... Read more
