My 4 year old Wii was giving constant Read Errors no matter what disc I was trying to run. At first it was just a disc or two that did it, but even after multiple lens cleanings they all started giving errors. All of the non-disc functions (like wii ware, internet browsing, etc) worked fine. Those are symptoms of a bad laser lens. Note that if your disc does not spin or if the disc is not detected by the system, you are probably looking at replacing the entire DVD drive (about $60). The laser lens is just one tiny piece of the entire drive assembly.

It's true that this laser lens does not come with any screwdrivers or instructions, but the instructions are easily found on Youtube, walking you step by step through the replacement. Total time took me about 1 hour - and I'm an engineer. There are about a dozen screws of various sizes you need to remove in a specific order, tiny cables to disconnect, and metal housings to pry up. It's NOT an easy task for someone with... Read more

My Wii could not read a single disc in my collection, so I wasted $18 on a lens cleaner that did nothing. Called Nintendo, and they wanted to charge $85 plus tax, with my system in their hands for up to a month. I should have just purchased this item to begin with. After I watched a video on you tube, I took apart my Wii and spent the better part of an hour putting in this laser lens. My Wii works like new. Make sure you purchase a tri-wing screwdriver if you don't already own one.

Also my daughters think I am super-awesome for fixing their best friend, the Wii!

My Wii stopped reading discs. While looking on the internet for a local repair shop I came across a link to this part on Amazon. The reviews sounded like I could actually do this myself. I ordered the part and the tri-wing screw driver ( Tri-Wing / Cross Wing Magnetic Screwdriver Set You will need a smaller phillips head along with these, or a flat head like from an eyeglasses repair kit. You also need a solder iron. I got one for $9) and followed the YouTube videos. However, my Wii still didn't work. I thought I had blown it somehow. I emailed the seller and asked if I could exchange the part. They sent a new one out immediately. I went through the repair process again today, and now my Wii is working like new!
I am so happy to have it working again for less than $10 rather than the $70-$90 that most places wanted. I have not done... Read more
